Company Overview

Our family’s printing legacy began in 1972, when the first Coard family print shop opened its doors.

By the early 1980s, our focus expanded beyond printing into direct mail marketing, a natural evolution that connected our passion for design with our clients’ need to reach new customers. In 1999, after the passing of my father, “Rip” Coard, I purchased the family business for the sum of its debt and continued his legacy until 2004, when the company transitioned to my brother, Brad Coard.

That same entrepreneurial spirit led Sandy and me to found National Mailhouse Corporation in 2005—starting humbly from our garage and the room above it. Rapid growth soon moved us into larger offices and production space on Market Street in downtown Suffolk, Virginia. But when the recession of 2008 hit, we—like many small businesses—were forced to make difficult decisions to survive.

In 2010, we relocated to Boykins, Virginia, purchasing and renovating two historic Main Street buildings to serve as our new home. The move proved to be a blessing. The peace, affordability, and community spirit of Southampton County allowed us not only to stabilize but to thrive. Today, National Mailhouse and Whittington Station Printing continue to serve clients across the region and beyond with integrity, creativity, and purpose.

What sets us apart is our human approach. We’ve always believed that putting people before profits is simply good business. That philosophy has earned us loyal clients and lasting relationships built on trust, quality, and consistent results.

None of this would have been possible without my wife and business partner, Sandy Coard. Together, we’ve grown our businesses side by side, guided by shared values and a love for our community.

Through our success, we’re proud to give back. Our companies help fund The Coard Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting local residents in need. The Foundation maintains the Boykins Blessing Box, providing food and necessities 24/7, and performs monthly “good deeds” to assist individuals and causes throughout the area. Many of our clients choose to donate directly to the Foundation in lieu of paying for their printing—allowing their projects to create an even greater impact.

These are challenging times for many, but we believe there’s always someone who needs a helping hand—and we’re honored to extend ours through every print, every mailing, and every act of kindness.
